The Cleveland Browns’ offense hasn’t exactly lit things up through the first four games of the season with veteran quarterback Joe Flacco as the starting quarterback. Fans called for a change at the position as early as Week Two, but head coach Kevin Stefanski was firm in his support of Flacco, who won Comeback Player of the Year a couple of seasons ago.
“Browns Stefanski said he won’t consider a quarterback change from Joe Flacco to Dillon Gabriel,” reported Mary Kay Cabot after Cleveland’s Week 2 loss.
Stefanski was still steadfast in his support of Flacco after Cleveland’s loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
“Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said he’s still not considering a QB change. ‘That’s not our focus … We didn’t do enough on offense,’” he said, ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi tweeted after the loss to Detroit.
However, it would seem that some more time evaluating things has prompted Stefanski to make a change.
“The current belief is that the #Browns are going to make a change at quarterback and start rookie Dillon Gabriel this week vs. the Vikings, sources tell (CBS Sports),” Matt Zenitz reported on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“If dillon gabriel is as good as everyone thinks he is, then the browns are going to win the super bowl no need to worry about his competition now and make excuses for him,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“There is going to be 3 former Oregon QBs starting in the NFL this weekend. Potentially 4 if Mariota plays,” someone else noted.
“We didn’t ask for this we asked for shedeur,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Gabriel plays well in his first NFL action.
