There have been rumors these past few weeks that the Dallas Cowboys may be interested in drafting Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, which could put Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on alert.
Prescott has been under fire since the Cowboys’ loss in the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs. Prescott threw several interceptions that cost the Cowboys the game.
Fox Sports Jason Smith said he thinks that the Cowboys may be sending a warning to Prescott to get his act together next year or he will be replaced.
“With what we’ve heard from the Cowboys in the last 24 hours, Dak Prescott is in his last season with Dallas if he doesn’t step up. He’ll be gone after this season,” he said. “Dak Prescott is in his last year of put up or shut up, or else he’ll be on a different team in a year. His contract is not as nearly as complicated with money as someone like Aaron Rodgers. … If the Cowboys wanted to part with a 30-year-old Dak Prescott after this year, a team would definitely be down to do that. This is the Cowboys putting a warning on Dak.”
Prescott promises to get better next year and the Jones family is standing by their quarterback, for now.
“I’m very strong on Dak,” said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. “We have, in my mind, a unique person, a unique football player, a unique quarterback. We have at times in these past three years where we hadn’t had him, and I like the way we have adjusted when we had to go without him. This whole thing reflects the upside that I feel in Dak.”
With that being said, this is a business, and Dak Prescott’s career with the Cowboys may be on the line if he doesn’t show improvement next year.
