The Cincinnati Bengals are trying to get back to the playoffs after missing out in each of the last two seasons. Cincinnati knows that its competitive window is open now, while star quarterback Joe Burrow is in his physical prime and has two of the top targets in the league in Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase.
Last year, the Bengals had one of the most dangerous offenses in the league, but struggled to stop their opponents from scoring. Now, with the regular season right around the corner, the Bengals are making a serious move to shore up their defense, according to one prominent insider.
“Sources: The #Bengals are signing former #Chiefs DT Mike Pennel. The plan is to start Pennel – a 2x Super Bowl champ- on the practice squad, and then get elevated early in the season. Another veteran addition to Cincinnati,” reported Jordan Scultz on Twitter.
Fans reacted to the signing on social media.
“What a silly SILLY goose way to handle the NT position by the Chiefs this offseason,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“I think the Chargers are going to be able to run on the Chiefs come Friday,” someone else added.
“I’m all about veteran leaders. This team lost a lot of close games last year. Games they won with vet voices when the Bengals found themselves with their backs against the wall all the way to their Super Bowl appearance,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Pennel does in Cincinnati.
