The Kansas City Chiefs are eager to show the league that they still have what it takes to sit atop the NFL, even after last season ended in an embarrassing defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

Kansas City knows that to get back to the top, it’ll have to improve its downfield passing attack from what it was last season, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes admitted as much over the offseason.

“We got to keep doing it, though, and we got great corners, so that’s going to be a lot of challenges for us,” Mahomes said. “But even on some of those that we throw incomplete, that we’re throwing down the field, we can talk through those routes and talk through that stuff.

“And so that’s the mindset is getting back to throwing the ball down the field, and if we can do that, it’ll open up the rest of the offense.”

Unfortunately, the Chiefs are dealing with a suspension to star receiver Rashee Rice and injuries to some of the other important receivers, both of whom are missing practice, according to one prominent insider.

“As expected, Andy Reid said Xavier Worthy & Jalen Royals are not expected to participate in today’s practice. ‘Both are doing better & making progress,’ Reid said. He added of Worthy: ‘He’s just rehabbing,'” reported ESPN’s Nate Taylor.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Going to be hilarious when Worthy starts before Royals,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Royals looks like a guy who will spend his entire career in the injury report,” someone else added.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Chiefs manage to stay afloat until they’re receiving corps is fully replenished.
