Global pop music sensation Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce aren’t just setting podcast records together; they’re also a real-life couple. On Tuesday, the couple announced that they’d be taking the next step together as a couple.
The two massive celebrities shared the news via a joint Instagram post, according to Awful Announcing. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the caption read, along with a photo of Kelce’s proposal.
As great as this news is, Kelce still has to focus on his upcoming season with the Chiefs, after deciding not to retire and to finish out his current contract with the franchise.
The Chiefs have been awaiting the suspension of one of their key pass catchers for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, and on Wednesday, the terms of the suspension were reported.
“NFL is aiming for at least a potential six-game suspension for Chiefs WR Rashee Rice for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, sources tell ESPN. The suspension would kick in at the start of this season,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Another ESPN reporter broke the news of Rice’s response to the league’s planned punishment.
“Can confirm that Rashee Rice has accepted a 6-game suspension that will start in Week 1, per source. Rice will be eligible to return Oct. 19 against the Raiders,” Nate Taylor posted on Twitter.
Unfortunately, Rice’s absence from the start of the season will almost certainly result in an increased workload for Kelce, who struggled last year to sustain the numbers that fans have become accustomed to over his storied career, which isn’t especially surprising considering Kelce’s advanced age relative to most of the league.
Kelce’s general manager, Brett Veach, acknowledged that Kelce doesn’t really have it in him at this point in his career to be at the top of his game week in and week out.
“The great ones know how to find it,” Veach said. “They know where it’s buried, and they know how to access it. And they can’t access it at that age week in and week out, but when they need it, they know how to find it.
“We’ve all seen it over the last few years. There are periods throughout the season where you’re like, ‘This might be it.’ But when the games are the most important and the lights are the brightest, he finds it somewhere.”
Fans reacted to the news of Rice’s suspension on social media.
“So much for being active for weeks 1-4. At least the Chiefs got him when it matters,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Chiefs will need to adjust early-season WR plans,” someone else added.
“There is a constant problem with the nfl. Guys like him, Rice, Peterson, the NFL is not a right, it’s a privilege. His season should be done,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Kelce responds to being leaned on in the early part of the season.
