Emotions ran high Sunday during the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills.
Kansas City had a go-ahead touchdown taken off the board in the final minute after quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw a strike downfield to tight end Travis Kelce, who pitched the ball to wide receiver Kadarius Toney who took it in for the go-ahead score.
Unfortunately for Toney, the referees ruled he was lined up offsides, negating the play and snuffing out Kansas City’s chances at a victory against Buffalo.
Mahomes was upset on the sideline, shaking hands with Josh Allen after the game, and in his postgame comments.
Monday on 610 Kansas City’s The Drive, the superstar quarterback said he regretted how he handled things. “Obviously, you don’t want to react that way. I care, man. I love it. I love this game, I love my teammates. I want to go out there and put everything on the line to win,” Mahomes said. “Obviously, you can’t do that. You can’t be that way towards officials or really anybody in life. I regret the way I acted towards Josh after the game. He had nothing to do with it. I was hot and emotional but you can’t do that. It’s not a great example for kids watching the game,” he continued.
At 8-5, Kansas City still holds a one-game lead on the AFC West, but their hopes of getting the AFC’s first overall seed and securing home-field advantage in the playoffs took a hit, as the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens improved to 10-3 and the Miami Dolphins would be able to join Baltimore with 10 wins of their own if they can knock off the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football.
