While Justin Herbert is obviously going to be the starting quarterback this season for the Los Angeles Chargers, one of the potential options to back him up has been released.
As NFL teams trim their rosters to get to 53 players before Tuesday’s deadline, Los Angeles made the move to quarterback Max Duggan, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The #Chargers are waiving rookie QB Max Duggan, per source. The former TCU star will be an interesting one to watch on waivers.

The Chargers selected Duggan with their final pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, late in the seventh round.
Duggan could be a fascinating pickup by a team with quarterback depth who would be willing to sit the 2022 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year for a year or two and let him learn and develop.
Duggan played a big part in helping the TCU Horned Frogs reach the College Football Playoff last season, and led TCU past Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl before the team fell 65-7 to Georgia in the National Championship.
In 15 games last season, Duggan went 267-419 for 3,698 passing yards and 32 touchdowns to just eight interceptions. He was named one of the four Heisman finalists, joining Caleb Williams, C.J. Stroud, and Stetson Bennett.
Chargers first-round pick Quentin Johnston also played for TCU, topping 1,000 yards last season and forming a connection with Duggan which, unfortunately, will not continue at the NFL level.
