The Indianapolis Colts moved on from former quarterback Carson Wentz this offseason, trading him to the Washington Commanders where he will now look to revive his career.
Despite some early success for the Colts last season, the team missed out on the playoffs after a loss to the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18 where Wentz looked far from impressive.
The situation with Wentz and the Colts turned sour throughout the offseason, with both head coach Frank Reich and general manager Chris Ballard unwilling to commit to him going forward. Perhaps the most critical comments regarding Wentz within the Colts organization came from owner Jim Irsay, who previously called the Wentz era a “mistake”.
Wentz went on Colin Cowherd’s podcast on Wednesday to discuss his one season with the Colts and addressed Irsay’s negative comments towards him.
“I mean it is what it is. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” said Wentz. “I thought last year was a really fun year. I thought we did some incredible things. Came up short at the end, and I struggled down the stretch there and the timing was poor. I didn’t expect things to unfold the way that they did. Thought things were in a pretty good place there. I had awesome relationships with everyone within that building. Can’t say enough good things. It kinda came out of left field but he is entitled to his own opinion and he’s entitled to do what he wants with his football team.”
Wentz will get his chance to prove that the Colts made a mistake in trading him when the two teams play in Week 8 next year.
