Last week, No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young was unable to play for the Carolina Panthers after suffering an ankle injury in Week 2. But it sounds like the rookie quarterback is back on the practice field already and there’s at least a chance that he could play for the team this weekend.
During his press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich announced that Bryce Young returned to practice, revealing that Young “tested” his ankle on Tuesday and felt confident enough to move forward with returning to practice on Wednesday.
While Reich would not indicate how involved Young was in practice, their roster moves would indicate that they believe Young will be healthy enough to play on Sunday.
“They lost practice squad quarterback Jake Luton when the Saints signed him to their active roster, and they didn’t replace him with another quarterback (signing wide receiver Matt Landers to fill the practice squad vacancy). Since they have just two quarterbacks on the roster, they must feel reasonably secure that Young will be available this week,” Darin Gantt of the Carolina Panthers team website wrote on Wednesday.
It’s big announcement from the Panthers, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on social media.
Obviously this doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be starting this week, but it’s looking likely he’ll be available.
