With Friday marking the Arizona Cardinals’ final day of practice before their Week 9 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, many figured that head coach Jonathan Gannon would announce his starting quarterback.
As it turns out, however, no such announcement will be coming, with Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network noting that Gannon has opted not to verbally tip his hand.
The Cardinals’ practice, however, provided some insight into Arizona’s current quarterback situation, with NFL Network’s Omar Ruiz reporting that Clayton Tune and Jeff Driskel practiced with the Cardinals’ starters while Kyle Murray performed lower on the depth chart. That would seem to indicate that Murray won’t be making his return to action on Sunday as he continues to recover from the torn ACL that he suffered during the 2022 season.
Complicating Arizona’s quarterback situation is that the Cardinals traded Josh Dobbs — who started their first eight games this season — to the Minnesota Vikings earlier this week. Murray, who began the season on the physically unable to perform list, returned to practice on Oct. 18, giving the Cardinals until Nov. 8 to add the No. 1 pick of the 2019 NFL Draft back to their 53-man roster.
At 1-7, Arizona enters Sunday’s game against 4-3 Cleveland laying claim to the worst record in the NFL.
Following the latest update on the Cardinals’ quarterback situation, many took to social media to weigh in.
