Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones had one of the most surprising arcs in college football history.
Jones became infamous early in his career when, in October 2012, out of frustration on receiving an unsatisfactory grade on an exam, he tweeted, “Why should we have to go to class if we come here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS.”
Despite entering the 2016 NFL Draft, Jones returned to Ohio State and finished his degree in African-American studies. He has spoken at length at how much he regrets making the infamous “We ain’t come to play SCHOOL” tweet.
This is why he was in perfect position to comment on longtime Georgia Bulldogs starter Stetson Bennett IV, who played six years of college football without earning his degree:

Jones definitely made the joke in good fun, but Bennett, who got drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round, didn’t immediately respond.
Jones is fondly remembered by Buckeyes fans despite his long ago comment. He saved Ohio State’s season in 2014 after starter Braxton Miller and second-string J.T. Barrett went down with season-ending injuries before Ohio State played the favored Wisconsin Badgers. Jones promptly led the Buckeyes to decisive victories over the Badgers, and then the Alabama Crimson Tide and Oregon Ducks to claim the national championship.
