Cam Newton is back in Charlotte. The former NFL MVP has re-signed with the Carolina Panthers as the team looks to replace injured Sam Darnold and fix their broken quarterback situation. Who better to turn to than the best quarterback in franchise history?
Newton has been searching for a new home since he was cut by the New England Patriots back in August. While everyone had nice things to say about one another, concerns over his vaccination status seemed to play a part in whether or not teams would want to take a run at the outspoken NFL veteran. Newton publicly announced he was vaccinated in October and reaffirmed his intention to continue playing the NFL.
It was reported in October that the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Football Team both kicked the tires on Newton but ultimately decided not to sign him. However, now there are reports that the Seahawks and the Houston Texans both extended offers of some kind of Newton earlier in the year but he did not sign them. Panthers insider Sheena Quick tweeted this out after it was reported that Newton would meet with Carolina about a reunion.
It makes sense both teams would be interested in Newton. The Seahawks were without Russell Wilson for a few weeks following a hand injury and the Texans have not only had to deal with the Deshaun Watson situation but also had injuries of their own. For whatever reason, those situations didn’t work and now Newtown is back with the franchise he spent nine seasons with.
