The Chicago Bears entered the season with a lot of hope after drafting former University of Southern California standout and Heisman trophy winner Caleb Williams first overall in the NFL Draft. Things started positively for the Bears, as they went 4-2 to open the season.
Unfortunately, things have gone terribly since then. The Bears have lost 10 straight games and Williams has struggled to look like an NFL-caliber quarterback.
Now, there’s been some reporting on just how poorly things are going for Williams behind the scenes.
“Caleb Williams is reportedly “struggling” with snap counts and reading defenses in Bears’ practices. Several NFL scouts reportedly believe the game is “moving too fast” at times for Williams to comprehend. Williams also has one of the WORST offensive lines in the league, taking 67 SACKS (league-high). Williams has lost more yards to sacks this season (459) than he’s had passing yards in any single game this season. Not to mention, Williams ranks 30TH in QBR this season (45.9). The Bears rookie QB is a lot more of a project than the consensus thought he’d be,” reported NFL Rookie Watch on Twitter.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“You say he has the worst line in football, then call him a project? I’m a lions fan but you can’t deny his talent. He needs protection up front, not a bunch of wrs. 9th pick should’ve been O line,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“It’s almost like they should have done more than watch game film and get enamored by the off script plays and potential to be the second coming and maybe paid attention to the person. Not a leader, not mentally strong, not heady and has 0 heart (the tough get going, he does not),” added another fan.
“Number one reason why not to start a rookie. They don’t understand the speed of the game,” added another fan.
It’ll be interesting to see if Williams can put things together.
