The Chicago Bears felt inevitable after leading the NFL in comeback victories throughout the regular season, and then pulling off thier most spectacular one of the season in the Wild Card round, scoring 25 fourth quarter points to stun their arch rivals, the Green Bay Packers.
However, Chicago’s season came to an end in yet another thriller, after an interception by Caleb Williams led to the Rams kicking the game-winning field goal on the ensuing drive.
After the game, Williams spoke with reporters in a press conference and talked about his feelings following the loss.
“Frustration. It’s a fire, and those are the those are the two words that I go with,” Williams said, according to The Spun. “I’m excited, though. Also, obviously not happy about the outcome, obviously frustrated about the outcome.
“But that’s over with, and I can’t go back and change it, and so, gonna go back and watch, you know, figure out how I can be better for the near future and, you know, help this organization get to where we wanna be.”
The Bears were able to send the game to overtime thanks to a miracle heave from Williams on 4th down that resulted in a touchdown to tight end Cole Kmet.
“It was cool in the moment. I can appreciate the organization,” Williams said of the play. “The city of Chicago. I can appreciate the sacrifice and growth we’ve had as a team. And I can appreciate the growth I’ve had and the trust I’ve had with Ben and my teammates. Those are the things I can appreciate.”
While it would seem the Bears are on an upward trajectory, this year’s Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders squads show just how fleeting success can be in the NFL. It’ll be interesting to see what next season brings in the Windy City.
