On Wednesday afternoon, the Buffalo Bills decided to trade star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. But the Bills did not get much in return for Diggs. In fact, parting ways with him is actually a pretty expensive move.
As Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap pointed out on social media, the Buffalo Bills now face a dead cap hit of $31.1 million after parting ways with Stefon Diggs, and they only received a 2025 second-round pick in return.
“The #Bills will carry about $31.1 million in dead money for Diggs. Pretty much a disaster extension for them. Wound up paying an extra $20.9M in 2022 and 2023 to come away with a net of less than a 2nd rounder next year,” Fitzgerald said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Obviously, this is a pretty horrible situation for the Buffalo Bills as the massive dead cap hit will make it very difficult to bring in any other receivers to replace Diggs, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.

Given everything that the Bills were willing to give up to trade away Diggs, it’s pretty clear that the team just wanted to get rid of him however they could.
