On Thursday, independent journalist Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com published a long article that was quite critical of Buffalo Bills head coach Doug McDermott, even including an anecdote detailing an insensitive comment where he used the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as an example of great teamwork. And it sounds like McDermott was not happy with the article.
During a press conference on Friday, Doug McDermott responded to the article, calling it “an attack on my character.”
“I know who I am,” McDermott said according to Pro Football Talk. “I know how I try to do things. Am I without flaw? No, I’m not without flaw and I say that humbly. I believe we try and do things right here. It doesn’t mean that everything we do is right, people are going to have their own opinions. I believe we’ve won a lot of games here since we’ve arrived and I’m confident in that. I’m confident in this football team. People are going to have their opinions, I can’t control that.”
As for the insensitive comment about 9/11, McDermott also apologized for it, making it clear that he never should have made the remark and that he immediately apologized for it at the time.
