The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have gotten off to a red-hot start and are 2-0 through the first two weeks of the season. However, the wins have not come easily for Tampa Bay, with both requiring late go-ahead drives from Baker Mayfield and the offense.
Their latest win, over the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football, saw Mayfield get hit repeatedly, so much so that he was expected to miss some practice time to allow his body to recover.
“Though #Bucs QB Baker Mayfield took plenty of hits in the dramatic win on MNF against the #Texans, his injuries did not require any MRIs or additional scans. Mayfield may take some time off this week, but should be good to go for Sunday against the #Jets,” reported Ian Rapoport.
Unfortunately for Mayfield and the Bucs, keeping him clean behind the line of scrimmage will be even harder for the rest of the season, as a key offensive lineman is done for the year, according to one prominent league insider
“Bucs G Cody Mauch is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 NFL season with a knee injury that will require surgery, per (Greg Auman). Mauch has started 36 of a possible 36 games in his career. A giant loss for Tampa Bay,” reported Ari Meirov.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“This hurts us terribly our offensive line was barely decent before this loss…time to make a trade or bring someone back out of retirement,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“We are doing something wrong in the offseason and preseason. This happens too often,” someone else added.
“Bruh our whole offensive line is hurt for weeks / out for season what tf,” one Bucs fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Bucs and Mayfield adapt after such a massive loss.
