The Carolina Panthers are one of the NFL’s ascending teams, having won three games in a row to push them above .500. Unfortunately for the Panthers, Sunday’s victory over the New York Jets proved to be a costly one, and the consequences may curb all of the positive momentum surrounding the franchise.

“Panthers QB Bryce Young suffered a high ankle sprain on Sunday, an MRI revealed, and he is expected to miss this week’s game against the #Bills, per sources. Andy Dalton is now in line to start against Buffalo, and quite possibly beyond,” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported on Monday, before following up with more.

The exact timetable for Bryce Young is TBD. This type of high ankle sprain is generally a 2-4 week injury, though Carolina is hopeful he could miss as little as one game. For now, the rising #Panthers turn to their veteran backup Andy Dalton.”

Fans reacted to the brutal news on social media.

“While this sucks, we probably weren’t beating Buffalo anyway but I hope he isn’t out too long,” one Panthers fan wrote on Twitter.

“Have to hope it’s just 1 week, we are just starting the hard part of our schedule and need him healthy asap,” someone else added.

“Panthers fans get a win streak for dinner and a slap in the face for dessert,” one fan wrote.

It’ll be interesting to see if Dalton can keep the train rolling.
