The Cleveland Browns’ offense has been one of the worst units in the league this season under the stewardship of veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. Fans clamored for a new quarterback as early as Week Two, but head coach Kevin Stefanski was steadfast in his support of Flacco.
“Browns Stefanski said he won’t consider a quarterback change from Joe Flacco to Dillon Gabriel,” reported Mary Kay Cabot after Cleveland’s Week 2 loss.
After Cleveland’s latest loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Stefanski was still willing to stick with Flacco.
“Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said he’s still not considering a QB change. ‘That’s not our focus … We didn’t do enough on offense,’” he said, reported Daniel Oyefusi on Sunday after the game.
However, something appears to have changed between then and now, according to one insider.
“The current belief is that the #Browns are going to make a change at quarterback and start rookie Dillon Gabriel this week vs. the Vikings, sources tell (CBS Sports),” reported Matt Zenitz on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Let’s start a rookie vs a defense that just annihilated jake browning,” one fan wrote on Twitter sarcastically.
“If he survives the Vikings and Steelers defenses, the next 4 teams will feel like Northwestern, Minnesota, Purdue and UCLA. He’s got this,” someone else added.
“Smart move. I’m not sure if Flacco’s vision is terrible with his old age but he throws it to the other team a lot,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Gabriel does in his first start.
