Myles Garrett makes bold claim ahead of 2022 NFL season

Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett has long been one of the best pass rushers in all of football, but he wants to be seen as the very best player in all of football.

Garrett was asked on Wednesday about the NFL Network’s annual Top 100 list, and where he should be ranked on that list.

“I think I should be one, but I mean, I’m not voting,” said Garrett via Pro Football Talk.

The top 100 list from NFL Network has been happening since 2011 annually, and in that time frame, defensive players have not typically gotten recognition as top players in the NFL.

Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman J.J. Watt is the only player to ever be listed as the top player in all of football, earning that honor in 2015 when he was a member of the Houston Texans.

Garrett understands that he likely won’t be named the top player in the NFL, revealing that he at least hopes that he is named a top-20 player on the list.

“Where do I expect myself? Somewhere in the Top 20. I don’t want to rate myself. I’m not sure,” Garrett said on his expected ranking.

While Garrett would certainly appreciate some recognition for his impressive play over the years, he doesn’t seem to be concerned about his ranking, saying that he doesn’t compare himself to other players in the NFL.

“I don’t like to compare myself to anyone, just because I think I have a lot of different things that I bring to the table, and I don’t think anyone has the particular set of skills I have,” Garrett added.

Garrett is coming off the best season of his career last year, recording 16 sacks along with 17 tackles for loss, which was good enough to be named a first-team All-Pro.

His game speaks for itself, and even if he is not named the best player by NFL Network, he will certainly be an irreplaceable piece of the Browns’ defense this upcoming season.
