Cleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson staked his claim to be Deshaun Watson’s backup this season with a strong performance in the first half of Thursday night’s preseason game against the Eagles.
Thompson-Robinson, Cleveland’s 2023 fifth-round pick, got the start Thursday over Kellen Mond, and made the most of his opportunity, going 13-25 with 164 passing yards and making a couple of highlight reel plays along the way.
In addition to his strong performance as a passer, Thomspon-Robinson also had pair of blocks on the same play, the second of which was, unfortunately, flagged for an illegal blindside block. Definitely not something you see every day from a quarterback.
This is the second straight impressive performance for Thompson-Robinson, who went 9-10 and had a touchdown pass in Cleveland’s 17-15 loss to Washington.
Thompson-Robinson’s performance had social media buzzing, with NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano calling him “The real deal”
The Film Room’s Brett Kollman went as far as to say Thompson-Robinson could start for multiple NFL teams.
Others were already ready to deem Thompson-Robinson a top-five Browns quarterback of this century. Considering some of the quarterbacks Cleveland has had, they may be onto something.
Someone else called their shot, saying that “DTR will be the best quarterback of the 2023 draft class”
Of course, UCLA fans also got in on the fun, saying the former Bruin “already looks better in the NFL than any USC QB since the Bush Administration”
