The Denver Broncos selected Jerry Jeudy with the 15th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft in hopes that Jeudy would become a star and help transform the team’s offense. Unfortunately through four seasons with the organization, he has fallen short of those expectations. And moving forward, he will now be playing for a new team after the Broncos agreed to trade him on Saturday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news of the Broncos trading Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero later detailed that the Broncos will be receiving a 2024 fifth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-round pick in return for the former Alabama product.
Naturally, fans had plenty to say on social media about the trade for both sides.
Jeudy’s best season came back in 2022 for the Broncos, recording 67 receptions for 972 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.
Unfortunately, he took a bit of a step back this past season, and overall failed to provide much consistency at the wide receiver position for the Broncos during his tenure with the team.
It’s fair to say that some of his struggles came due to the mediocre quarterback play in Denver throughout his time with the team.
Another area of concern could about Jeudy’s game may just be his mental toughness. Former NFL star wideout turned NFL Network analyst Steve Smith Sr. famously called out Jeudy publically last season, saying that he “mentally unable to handle constructive criticism”.
The deal makes sense for the Browns in that it is a buy-low opportunity on a player in Jeudy that came into the NFL with a ton of promise. Could a change of scenery make the difference in Jeudy’s game? Potentially, but he still needs to prove that he can be a true difference maker in the right situation.
