The Baker Mayfield/Cleveland Browns saga has a new quirk as the NFL franchise reportedly does not want to pay the quarterback his salary for the 2022 season.
According to ESPN’s Diane Russini, the Browns have no interest in paying Mayfield part of this $18 million salary.
“The Cleveland Browns do not want to take on that contract. I don’t know the number they’re willing to go to … they want nothing to do with that deal. If you want Baker Mayfield, you’re going to pay that money. Cleveland’s not going to try to split it up with you,” Russini said on The Ryen Russillo Podcast.
She also said no team wants him, including the Seattle Seahawks who were once thought very interested in trading for the Browns’ former starter.
What has hurt the Browns and Mayfield is both sides seem to have torpedoed his chances of going anywhere because of the negativity surrounding him.
Mayfield has come off at times as a complainer and whiner, which may be a turn-off to several NFL teams. When it was rumored that the Carolina Panthers may make a trade for Mayfield, Panthers wide receiver Robby Anderson made it clear he did not want Mayfield as a teammate. His reaction to Mayfield as a teammate was simply “Noooo.”
Former Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith shared that same feeling.
The Browns also didn’t do themselves any favors by not building up Mayfield’s character on or off the field. They basically described the former No. 1 draft pick as immature.
It's so cool how Baker Mayfield is "immature" in the eyes of the Browns but a serial sexual assaulter is perfectly fine https://t.co/Kwrjg30vXC

Now it appears that both sides seem to be stuck with each other for this upcoming season with no end in sight.
