Heading into Thursday’s NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos find themselves in a bit of a jam.
After trading Russell Wilson to the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in the offseason and acquiring Zach Wilson from the New York Jets earlier this week, the Broncos have just Wilson and Jarrett Stidham as the two quarterbacks on their roster.
Neither player has shown enough in their NFL careers to prove that they should be the answer at quarterback for the Broncos, so that leaves Denver in a position where it’ll likely look to add a quarterback in Thursday’s draft.
The issue for the Broncos is that they currently hold the No. 12 pick in the draft, which will likely mean four of five quarterbacks have already been taken, leading to either a trade back, a possible reach, or waiting and seeing what’s available later in the draft.
Albert Breer of The MMQB addressed this on his X account on Tuesday night.
“The Broncos quietly did a lot of work on Oregon QB Bo Nix. They had an hour-long Zoom with him on March 7, then sent a Sean Payton-led contingent to Eugene to work him out on March 18,
per sources. So interest is there. Fit, too. But not having a 2nd-rounder could complicate it,” Breer noted in his post. The Broncos could just take Nix with the No. 12 pick, but unless they’re firmly convinced he’s the guy, that’s a tough ask. But waiting until the third round almost certainly means rifling through the bargain bin of remaining quarterbacks. It’s an unenviable situation for the Broncos to be in.
Social media had a lot to say about Breer’s report.
