Heading into this week’s showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals, the status of San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Brock Purdy was a little bit up in the air as he went through the league’s concussion protocol this week. But it looks like Purdy is going to play.
According to league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Brock Purdy has cleared the league’s concussion protocol and will play for the San Francisco 49ers against the Cincinnati Bengals this week.
“#49ers QB Brock Purdy has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and will start Sunday vs the #Bengals. He was a full participant on Friday and had been listed as questionable,” Rapoport said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
It’s a big update for the star quarterback, and the NFL world had a lot to say about the announcement on social media on Saturday afternoon.

As many pointed out, Purdy is the first NFL player this season to clear concussion protocol the same week he entered concussion protocol and he did it on a short week as the Niners played on Monday night.
We’ll have to see how he performs against the Bengals on Sunday.
