Ever since he was fired by the Miami Dolphins, Brian Flores has been one of the hottest coaching candidates around the NFL. However, as many of the other head coaching jobs have filled up, some have wondered if he might miss out on getting a new gig.
At least for now, the Houston Texans seem to be interested in considering him for their opening. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, the Texans are meeting with Flores for the second time on Monday.
Flores previously interviewed with Houston on Jan. 14, which was merely days after they had fired head coach David Culley following one season.
The Texans have been rumored to want to hire Josh McCown and looking for reasons to do it in spite of the fact that he has no notable coaching experience. However, the bad press around that idea might have scared them off or at least made them want to make sure they look like they’re keeping their options open.
Flores also makes sense as he and Texans GM Nick Caserio have a history together, both having worked with the New England Patriots. Caserio was the director of player personnel while Flores worked his way up as safties and linebacker coach.
The Texans organization has developed a pretty bad reputation that has led many to wonder why anyone would want to work for them. However, it’s still a head coaching job in the NFL and it’s hard to say no to that. If the stars align and Flores ends up with Houston after being fired by Miami, it should create an interesting storyline if the two teams play one another.
