The Kansas City Chiefs are looking ot get back to the Super Bowl following an embarrassing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in last year’s rendition. The Chiefs will be getting at least one more season out of star tight end Travis Kelce, who elected to return and play out his contract with the franchise rather than retire.
However, the Chiefs organization seems to understand that Kelce won’t have what it takes to perform at his peak week in and week out at this stage of his career.
“The great ones know how to find it,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said, via ESPN. “They know where it’s buried, and they know how to access it. And they can’t access it at that age week in and week out, but when they need it, they know how to find it.
“We’ve all seen it over the last few years,” Veach said. “There are periods throughout the season where you’re like, ‘This might be it.’ But when the games are the most important and the lights are the brightest, he finds it somewhere.”
Fans reacted to Veach’s statement on social media.
“Lol then retire, 35 isn’t that old for someone who’s had a healthy career at TE,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Anyone drafting him amongst the top 5 TEs in 2025 needs their head examined,” one fantasy player added.
“Where was he in (the Super Bowl)?” one person asked.
It’ll be interesting to see what level Kelce performs at in his age-35 season.
