Heading into the 2025 NFL season, the New Orleans Saints will have the youngest coach in the NFL, former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, as their head coach for the foreseeable future.
Obviously, one of the more pressing questions for Saints fans is about Moore’s lack of experience in a head coaching role. Luckily, the organization opted to bring in a defensive coordinator with past experience as a head coach to help Moore in that department.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Saints are bringing in former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley to be their new defensive coordinator.
Staley of course served as the head coach of the Charges for three seasons from 2021-2023 where he accumulated a 24-24 overall record.
While Staley obviously had his faults as a head coach, particularly when it came to time management, he does at the very least have experience coaching when it matters most in the postseason.
On paper, the Saints are quite clearly a ways away from contending for a postseason bid in the NFC. But at the very least, bringing in someone with the experience that Staley has should go a long way in reviving the Saints’ defense which was one of the staples of the organization.
