Everybody knows that New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is nearing NFL history as he approaches the NFL record for the most wins in history currently owned by Don Shula, but Belichick is also approaching a much more unfortunate NFL record, as well: the record for the most losses in history.

A few years ago, most assumed that Bill Belichick would break Don Shula’s record for most wins long before he ever broke the league record for most losses – if it ever happened. But Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk points out, Belichick only needs nine more losses to break the league record for the most losses by a head coach all time.

“After Sunday’s loss to the Raiders, Belichick is 299-157 in his NFL coaching career. The record for most regular-season losses in NFL history is shared by Dan Reeves (who went 190-165-2) and Jeff Fisher (173-165-1). So if Belichick loses nine more games, he’ll break that record,” Smith wrote for Pro Football Talk on Monday.

It’s a pretty sad turn of events for Belichick as he has quickly fallen off from his previous dominance, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.

It’s safe to say that Belichick has not been anywhere near as dominant since the departure of Tom Brady and it’s just sad to see.
