The Cincinnati Bengals have a reputation as being one of the cheapest teams in the NFL when it comes to paying their players. Cincinnati bucked that trend when it signed both of its star receivers, Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, to massive extensions.
Unfortunately, the Bengals then found themselves in a very public contract dispute with star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who led the league in sacks last season. Now, the Bengals have found themselves in yet another situation that won’t improve their reputation around the league.
“The #Broncos and No. 20 pick CB Jahdae Barron have agreed to terms on his rookie deal, per (Mike Klis) . It’s 4 years, $18.05M with a $9.8M signing bonus. That leaves #Bengals rookie Shemar Stewart as the final unsigned first-round pick,” reported Ari Meirov.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“They pull this crap every year. It’s not the money, it’s the language & structure. The money is set so they’re not being cheap. Just stupid,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Bengals don’t be cheap and screw over their players challenge,” someone else added.
“Come on Cincy give him the guarenteed money!” one fan implored the Bengals.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Bengals end up caving and paying Stewart.
