The Cincinnati Bengals have had a frustrating year, to say the very least. The Bengals got off to a promising 2-0 start to the campaign, but things were quickly derailed by a turf toe injury to star quarterback Joe Burrow.
The Bengals’ season spiraled out of control from that point, as the Bengals tried both Jake Browning and Joe Flacco at quarterback, and while the offense improved under Flacco, the results failed to materialize in the win column.
Burrow eventually returned and led Cincinnati to an impressive win over the Baltimore Ravens to keep the Bengals’ slim playoff hopes alive, but then proceeded to lose back-to-back games, resulting in Cincinnati’s elimination from playoff contention for the third straight season.
Unfortunately for the Bengals faithful and Burrow’s future, no serious or sweeping organizational changes are on the way, per a recent report from Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, as the Bengals signed head coach Zac Taylor to a second 5-year extension after their run to the AFC Championship Game in 2022, keeping him under contract through the 2027 season.
This means that Taylor figures to return in 2026, along with Director of Player Personnel Duke Tobin (the Bengals do not employ a traditional general manager).
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“If they don’t get rid of Zac, they at least need to get rid of Duke Tobin then. We all know that won’t happen though,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Bringing back all the coaches from this season would be the biggest slap in the face I’ve ever felt as a fan,” someone else added.
“Damn I wish I could absolutely SUCK at my job but stay employed! What a country!” another fan added.
It has to be frustrating for Bengals fans to watch the prime of a player as talented as Burrow be wasted by organizational malpractice.
