Over the past several months, it’s become pretty clear that the Arizona Cardinals intended to trade star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins – or so we thought.
Despite rumors and reports suggesting that DeAnder Hopkins could be on the move in the near future, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon revealed that he’s now moving forward as if he will be with the team.
“I’m operating that he’s a Cardinal right now,” Gannon said according to the NFL official website. “So, I’m looking forward to getting in the meeting room and on the field with him and seeing where it can go. I just know he’s an elite player. Being a defensive guy, I had to go up against him a couple times in the division. The challenges that he presents. I’m excited to get to work with him.”
It’s a pretty shocking development to hear Gannon now talking as if Hopkins will be returning to the team next year, especially after he previously said he did not know whether Hopkins would be back or not. As a result, the NFL world had plenty to say on Twitter, with not many people believing him.
Obviously, there’s still a chance that Hopkins could be traded before the start of the 2023 NFL season. But the fact that Gannon is even discussing the possibility that he could is certainly very interesting.
