Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. (5) says a prayer Friday, July 25, 2025, ahead of training camp held at Grand Park in Westfield.

The Indianapolis Colts are in the middle of an intense battle for the starting quarterback job between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones. Unfortunately for Richardson, Colts general manager Chris Ballard indicated that he doesn’t think Richardson is quite where he needs to be yet at this point in his career.

“I just think eventually Anthony’s going to be who we think he can be,” Ballard said, via Zak Keefer of The Athletic. “I still believe that. Whether that’s this year or next, I don’t know when it’s going to happen.”

However, it would appear Richardson’s confidence in himself is unshaken, and he’s moving forward as if he is the starter, and he’s not afraid to let anyone know it, including Daniel Jones.

“I’ve just got to work as if I am going to be the Day One starter,” Richardson said, according to Pro Football Talk. “Regardless of what decision they make, I’m still working, trying to improve. They’re going to make the best decision for this team, and that’s what we need.

“This team wants to win the Super Bowl. It’s not about me, it’s about the team. I’m just working as if I am the starter, and if I don’t get the job, you know, glory to God.”

Fans reacted to Richardson’s statement on social media.

“Mindset over media quotes. Love Richardson owning QB1 expectations straight up—matches what I saw in his rookie film before the injury. That shoulder rehab’s looking good for Comeback Player futures at +2200,” one fan wrote on Twittter.

“He will start… but h has six games to prove himself,” predicted one fan.

“Be lucky to last a month. Dude ain’t him,” someone else added.

It’ll be interesting to see who wins the battle.
