Andy Reid is likely Canton-bound when he eventually decides to retire as an NFL coach. Reid has been the architect for prolific offenses both in Philadelphia and Kansas City. His Chiefs have won two Super Bowls under his direction. While Reid probably won’t retire anytime within the next year, a potential plan has emerged for his eventual successor.
The choice of candidate to replace Reid eventually, you might ask? None other than Matt Nagy.
Nagy is expected to usurp former coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s job as offensive coordinator now that the Washington Commanders hired Bieniemy for the same position. But that’s not all. The former Chicago Bears coach may eventually replace Reid as Chiefs head coach if a report from NFL reporter Aaron Wilson suggests anything.
“Nagy is a top candidate to eventually replace Andy Reid, per sources. Succession plan likely in next 3 years,” Wilson tweeted.
With Chicago, Nagy had less than desirable results, let’s say. While the 2018 NFL Coach of the Year led the Bears to the postseason, hardly any offensive growth was ever shown. Picking Mitchell Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes probably led to a lot of that lack of success. But Bear fans were oftentimes frustrated by Nagy and his coaching/personnel decisions. Same thing with his utilization of first-round pick Justin Fields.
Nevertheless, all eyes will now be on the next few years to see if this Andy Reid succession plan plays its way out this way.
