It’s been almost a year since Urban Meyer was fired as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars after a series of controversies, but it appears that some of the Jacksonville players aren’t quite done taking shots at their former coach.
Following Sunday afternoon’s win over the Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars safety Andrew Wingard had some pretty inflammatory things to say about his former head coach while praising the development of second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Wingard blasted Urban Meyer, saying “I don’t even know if [Lawrence] had a rookie year.”
“I’m just so happy for Trevor, because he had to deal with Urban Meyer last year as a rookie,” Wingard said in the video shared by Action Sports Jax. “I don’t even know if he had a rookie year.”
“And to see the growth he’s made, not just on the field, but just his preparation, his demeanor, all that,” Wingard continued. “And you knew, when the rock breaks it’s not just that one chip it’s all the chips that stacked up before that. I’m so happy for him.”
It’s not exactly surprising that Wingard feels this way about Meyer, given how last season played out. But it’s not too often you see a player so openly blast his former coach.
