New York Giants defensive lineman Abdul Carter showed stunning leadership earlier this offseason for his handling, both privately and publicly, of Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introducing United States President Donald Trump at an event.
“Some things are bigger than football, and this is one of those things. Jaxson is one of our leaders – he’s the face of our franchise,” Carter told reporters of the situation. “He represents himself and what he does, and he represents all of us. If he chooses to align himself with a man like President Trump, it’s my responsibility, based on what I believe and what I stand on to not only show my teammates that I’m against that, but to show the world.
“That doesn’t mean that we have to spread hate. That doesn’t mean that me and Jaxson hate each other or we have beef. I sit next to Jaxson every day – we’re close, we talk. As long as we make sure we have the same goal as a team, and our goals align – which they do -that’s all that matter. I just want to move past this.”
Carter received praise for his words, and there is hope that his leadership will help translate to on-field succcess for the Giants. Unfortunately, the standout lineman suffered an injury on Monday.
“Giants edge rusher Abdul Carter suffered an injury that forced him off the field at today’s mandatory minicamp practice. Carter had his left shoe and sock off and was examined by trainers, limped off the outdoor practice field and into the Giants’ indoor facility,” Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith reported.
Hopefully, the injury isn’t too severe, and the Giants are just being extra cautious.
