The New Orleans Saints were left without a starting quarterback after Derek Carr was forced into an early retirement this offseason due to a lingering shoulder injury. Now, the Saints are scrambling to find the right guy for the job.
Some have speculated that Aaron Rodgers could be a good fit for the job, as he remains unsigned. However, per Rodgers’ own words, New Orleans isn’t in the cards.
“Aaron Rodgers was asked if he’d ever consider playing for the Saints. His response: ‘No. That’s the answer. No. I’ve played there a couple of times but no. The answer is no. I’m too old, I don’t want to live in Louisiana. Sorry,’” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.
Fans reacted to the statement on social media.
“Saints fan just had a sigh or relief….now the tank for Archibald Manning is clear and wide open….no obstacles whatsoever in the way now,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Yeah, I really don’t understand how bad Pittsburgh has gotten if they are hanging their hopes and dreams on a soon-to-be 42-year-old quarterback with an Achilles tear behind a shaky offensive line,” someone else added.
“But Aaron Rogers might benefit from the voodoo magic!” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Rodgers elects to sign with a team or ends up retiring this offseason.
