The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new head coach in Mike McCarthy, but just like last offseason, under Mike Tomlin, the franchise has uncertainty around who the starting quarterback will be in Week 1.
McCarthy has expressed his desire to work with Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh’s starter last season, and the quarterback he won a Super Bowl with as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers.
However, Rodgers has repeatedly stated that he’ll have multiple options this offseason should he elect to come back.
In a shocking development, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio has the Arizona Cardinals as the only option left for Rodgers to sign with other than a Pittsburgh return.
“It’s getting harder to identify those options, as quarterback-needy teams address their needs. The Dolphins signed Malik Willis,” Florio reported.
“The Colts re-signed Daniel Jones. The Falcons reportedly will sign Tua Tagovailoa. The Vikings are focused on Kyler Murray. The Raiders, who weren’t interested in Rodgers last year, seem to be poised to make Fernando Mendoza the No. 1 overall pick. The only obvious remaining option, other than Pittsburgh, is Arizona.”
Fans reacted to Florio on social media.
“Aaron Rodgers being unable to read the landscape is a tale as old as time,” someone else added.
“Cardinals are rolling with JB. He earned it, is loved in the locker room. If it works out, then great. If not, it’s a high draft pick in a QB laden draft,” someone else added.
“He better not draw out this thing like last year. You know if you want to play or not. Just being a pain,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see what Rodgers elects to do.
