As NFL free agency is set to be gin, the San Francisco 49ers got richer on the defensive line.
The 49ers will reportedly sign former Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Javon Hargrave. Already littered with talent on the line, San Francisco will add a ferocious talent who helped lead Philly to a franchise record in sacks in 2022.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news on Monday. “Former Eagles’ DT Javon Hargrave has reached agreement on a four-year, $84 million deal that includes $40m guaranteed at signing with the SF 49ers, per source. Deal negotiated and confirmed by Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha,” Schefter tweeted.
Hargrave posted a career-high 11.0 sacks on the Philadelphia line last season. It was a beastly line to say the east between him, Haason Reddick, Brandon Graham, and others. That won’t change in the Bay Area. Hargrave joins a team featuring Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead, among other monstrosities on the line and on the front.
The NFL world reacted to the crazy signing.
Ross Tucker praised the fact that it’s linemen on both sides getting the money first.
49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk was mesmerized by his team’s defensive line.
49ers reporter David Lombardi proclaimed it to be a “MASSIVE move” for the team.
Colts reporter Stephen Holder said of the signing, “The salary cap is not real, Part 2,583.”
