The San Francisco 49ers are looking to get back to the playoffs after missing out last season, one year after making the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, things are getting complicated for the Niners at the quarterback position. Star quarterback Brock Purdy is dealing with a toe injury, and it looks as if he’ll be missing more time than the Niners originally anticipated.

From The (NFL on Prime)  TNF pregame show: #49ers QB Brock Purdy suffered a setback of his turf toe injury against the #Jaguars and is now considered week-to-week. He could miss additional games after tonight,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport had more reporting on Purdy’s replacement on the active roster.

The #49ers have signed QB Adrien Martinez to the 53-man roster in advance of tonight, and he’ll serve as the backup. They’ve also elevated DE Trevis Gipson and WR Malik Turner from the practice squad.”

Fans reacted to the roster moves on social media.

“Does elevating Gipson and Turner show solid depth, or are the 49ers just throwing players into the mix with no plan?” one fan wondered on Twitter.

“If the Rams don’t win this game by at least two scores, I am not convinced they are a Super Bowl team. The Niners Super Bowl Window was SLAMMED SHUT as soon as CMC fumbled that first drive in the SB,” one fan added.

“I thought Travis Gipson was going to be a pro bowler. Him and Bilal Nichols. Shoutout,” another person added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Martinez can salvage an NFL career out of this opportunity.
