There is still bad blood between San Francisco 49ers fans and the Las Vegas Raiders fan base.
Although the Raiders left Oakland for Vegas after the 2019 season, fans of the two Bay Area teams have maintained their bitter rivalry. Those tensions boiled over Saturday night in Santa Clara after the 49ers lost their preseason finale to the Los Angeles Chargers.
A group of at least 10 fans, several wearing 49ers or Raiders jerseys, brawled at an In-N-Out restaurant after the game. The restaurant is about two miles from Levi’s Stadium.
At least two people were stabbed and taken to a hospital. Their condition is unknown.
According to Santa Clara police, multiple people were detained following the wild incident, although the stabbing suspect remains at large.
KTVU Fox 2 in San Francisco aired video of the incident. Warning: it contains violent content.
It’s not the first time fans from the two teams have tussled. Multiple skirmishes between fans were reported in the stands and the parking lot at a 2011 preseason game. The Raiders hosted the 49ers for joint practices before defeating them in Las Vegas, 34-7, in this year’s preseason opener.
It’s the second time in a week 49ers fans have made headlines for unruly behavior. A brawl at Levi’s Stadium during the Aug. 20 game against the Denver Broncos went viral on social media.
