The San Francisco 49ers are trying to get back to the playoffs after missing out last season. San Francisco has already had to stomach injuries to quarterback Brock Purdy and tight end George Kittle.
Still, the Niners are 3-0 through the first three weeks of the season, thanks in large part to the play of backup quarterback Mac Jones and some strong showings from the defense.
Unfortunately for the 49ers, that defense is set to lose one of its most important pieces for the rest of the season, according to one promient league insider.
“Tests today showed that 49ers Pro Bowl DE Nick Bosa suffered a season-ending torn ACL during Sunday’s win over Arizona, sources tell ESPN. It’s a clean tear, but Bosa now will need season-ending surgery,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Twitter.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Prayers up to Nick for a speedy and full recovery. Man the 49ers are absolutely decimated by injuries every year that franchise might be cursed recently,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Thankfully he has the MAGA healthcare plan. The best healthcare to ever exist. It’s YUGE!” someone else added sarcastically.
“Prayers up to Nick for a speedy and full recovery. Man the 49ers are absolutely decimated by injuries every year that franchise might be cursed recently,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Niners defense looks without Bosa.
