The San Francisco 49ers had things derailed in a major way last season after injuries completely decimated thier star players and led to the Niners missing the playoffs just one season after appearing in the Super Bowl.
Unfortunately, things have already gotten off to a similar start for San Francisco this season.
“Brock Purdy has a left shoulder and toe injury that make him uncertain for Sunday’s game in New Orleans. Kyle Shanahan said the team will see how the practice week goes. If Purdy cannot play, 49ers backup QB Mac Jones would be in line to start,” reported ESPN’s Schefter after Week One.
Purdy wasn’t the only star with a brutal update from Schefter, either.
“Sources: 49ers are placing Pro Bowl TE George Kittle on injured reserve, meaning he now will miss at least the next four games. Kittle injured his hamstring during Sunday’s win over Seattle and now will miss games at New Orleans, vs. Atlanta, Jacksonville and at the Rams.”
However, now ESPN’s senior NFL insider has some more positive news for the Niners faithful.
“Additional scans today on Jauan Jennings’ shoulder came back clean, and the 49ers wide receiver avoided any significant injury, per source. Jennings now will be considered day to day, and has a chance to play Sunday at New Orleans.”
Fans reacted to the update on social media.
“Day to day? 49ers always downplay injuries until it blows up. Wouldn’t be shocked if Jennings goes from ‘chance to play’ to IR in two weeks,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Is he talking about this Sunday? Cause I don’t see a reason why a bench B player at today level based on skill should be playing,” someone else added.
“A healthy Jennings could change their season, but the lack of clarity might just spark a league wide debate. What do you think, fair play or foul?” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Niners can ever get fully healthy this season.
