The rich got richer in the NFL on Thursday. Teams were awarded compensatory draft picks for the upcoming NFL Draft and the San Francisco 49ers made out like bandits.
The 49ers, already rich with talent, received three compensatory picks according to ESPN NFL insider, Adam Schefter. The picks are for the third round: No. 99, 101, and 102. Additionally, they landed compensatory picks in the fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds.
“49ers were awarded three third-round picks – No. 99, 101, and 102. 49ers also gained comp picks in rounds 5, 6, and two in 7, so seven extra picks added today,” Schefter tweeted.
San Francisco has assembled one of the best rosters in the NFL on both offense and defense. They’ve drafted stars like Nick Bosa, Deebo Samuel, Fred Warner, George Kittle, Arik Armstead, and Jimmie Ward. They’ve also acquired big names like Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams. Now, they’ll go into this year’s NFL Draft with seven additional draft picks they didn’t have accounted for yesterday.
They now own 11 draft picks for the upcoming draft. Their first won’t come until the third round, as multiple first-rounders were used in previous moves. Either way, they have a bounty. They have hit on late-round draft picks before, notably Kittle in the 2017 fifth round and Warner in the 2018 third round. So, they could well be poised to strike again.
The NFL world reacted to the insane news.
