The San Francisco 49ers are hopeful that this season brings better injury luck than last year, when the Niners’ entire year was derailed by injury and San Francisco missed out on the playoffs a season after appearing in the Super Bowl.
Unfortunately, the Niners are one game through the season and have already gotten brutal injury news concerning their franchise quarterback, Brock Purdy, according to one prominent league insider.
“Brock Purdy has a left shoulder and toe injury that make him uncertain for Sunday’s game in New Orleans. Kyle Shanahan said the team will see how the practice week goes. If Purdy cannot play, 49ers backup QB Mac Jones would be in line to start,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“It’s week two and we’re already being blessed with some Mac Jones football,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Purdy’s injury status puts the 49ers in a tough spot, but Shanahan’s system could still give Mac Jones a chance to manage the offense effectively,” someone else added.
“Can never assume a 49ers player made it through the game healthy just because you don’t see the injury,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Jones does if he finds himself starting next week.
