The San Francisco 49ers are looking to avoid a fate similar to last season’s, when they missed out on the playoffs a season removed from making the playoffs. The Niners have managed to survive a host of injuries to key players early this season to get off to a 3-1 start on the year.

The Niners got star quarterback Brock Purdy last week, but his return appears to have been short-lived, according to one prominent league insider.

“Brock Purdy (toe), Ricky Pearsall (knee), Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) are out Thursday night vs. the Rams,” Adam Schefter, ESPN’s senior NFL insider, reported on Twitter on Wednesday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media

“Having Brock Purdy play on Sunday was idiotic. Was clear that he wasn’t ready to play,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Oh hell, whole squad out. Basically their starting skills players are sitting besides CMC,” another fan added.

“Zero excuses for the Rams to lose this game. Regardless its still going to be a great match up. Rams must be aggressive and continue to be aggressive the entire game. Going to be at the game early tomorrow to take in all the pregame festivities,” one Rams player wrote on Twitter.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Niners look on Thursday night.
