Netflix’s roast of Tom Brady on Sunday garnered a lot of attention. While a lot of people loved it, some people thought that some of the jokes were in poor taste.
While some expressed their disdain for the jokes at the expense of Gisele Bündchen, Shayanna Jenkins, the ex-fiancée of Aaron Hernandez, took issue with jokes about him.
There were a lot of jabs taken at his expense that Jenkins didn’t like. Comedian Nicki Glazer said “Give it up for zero-time Super Bowl champion Randy Moss! Why don’t you have a ring? What the hell, man, you’re one of the best ever. Drew Bledsoe has a ring. Aaron Hernandez had a ring…around his neck.”
Even Brady himself got in on the action saying “The bar for a Patriots tight end was pretty low back then — block, catch, don’t murder.”
Hernandez was convicted of murder back in 2015 and was sentenced to life in prison. Two years later, he committed suicide.
Jenkins said she was disappointed by the jokes and was upset on behalf of her children.
“It’s sad that I’m trying to raise my children in such a cruel world,” she posted on social media.
Others agreed with Jenkins’s sentiments and felt like Hernandez’s family should have been allowed to live in peace.
On the other hand, others didn’t understand what the big deal was.
Yeah, it seems particularly tasteless to joke about a murderer who committed suicide in jail. I am pretty sure that his victim's family sees no humor in this.
