Wake Forest has serious concerns regarding a potential security breach following the team’s 44-12 loss to Louisville on Saturday.
The Demon Deacons (6-4) were curb stomped by the Cardinals (9-1) last weekend after holding an early 12-0 lead. Wake Forest was crushed by Louisville’s ground game, as Lamar Jackson and Brandon Radcliff combined for nearly 300 yards rushing.
The impressive performance may have came about due to an unfair advantage, according to Demon Deacons coach Dave Clawson. On Tuesday, Clawson admitted to the Winston-Salem Journal, the school was concerned about a security breach.
“We are concerned that there was some type of security breach,’’ coach Dave Clawson said Tuesday. “I have shared it with [athletic director] Ron Wellman, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure all of our information and data is more secure moving forward.’’
Neither Clawson nor Wellman has outright suggested the potential infraction or security breach referenced, so the breach could be anything from the Cardinals coming into possession of Wake Forest’s playbook, or it could be a more minor infraction, such as the Cardinals learning Wake’s play calls. Who knows? The details are vague.
Louisville coach and noted bastion of integrity Bobby Petrino released a statement about the situation, saying not much of anything.
Whatever it is, Wellman makes it sound like the school is taking the potential issue very seriously, saying despite not finding “anything for certain at this point,” the school will continue to investigate to make sure “it doesn’t happen in the future.” What that it is, is still TBD.
