March Madness has seen yet another upset, with the seventh-seeded Texas A&M Aggies taking down the second-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels 86-65 Sunday in Charlotte. This had a lot to do with the Aggies’ shooting, as they hit 52.5 per cent of their shots from the field and 43.5 per cent from three-point range, but it was also about their defense; they held defending national champions UNC to 32.9 per cent shooting (just 19.4 per cent from deep) and recorded seven blocks. Here’s a look at their celebration and handshakes:
Freshman guard T.J. Starks led the way for Texas A&M with 21 points and five assists, while junior center Tyler Davis posted 18 points (on seven of nine shooting), nine rebounds and three blocks. Forward Robert Williams also posted eight points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. And the Aggies held North Carolina star senior guard Joel Berry II to 21 points on seven of 17 shooting, including just 2 for 10 from deep, and contained junior forward Luke Maye (seen above), who finished with just 13 points on six of 16 shooting. They’ll now move on to face Michigan in the Sweet Sixteen Thursday.
