Since the tragic shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando 10 days ago, an outpouring of support has gone into the community in light of this horrific tragedy. In addition to the actions taken by the people, those in the world of sports have also come together to support the community of Orlando in their time of crisis.
Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, two of the most vaunted quarterbacks to play football in the sunshine state, recently paid a visit to bartender Rodney Sumter at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he has been recovering from the three gunshot wounds he received the night of the shooting.
Sumter is quite familiar with Tebow, as the two were teammates at Nease High School. While Tebow went on to play for Urban Meyer at Florida, Sumter went on to play in the collegiate ranks at Jacksonville University.
But Tebow was not Sumter’s only high-profile visitor, as Winston also stopped by the Orlando Regional Medical Center alongside Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher.
In addition, Florida governor Rick Scott, former Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon, and Orlando City SC star Kaka also came by to support the former collegiate athlete.
